Location
Surrounded by the Erosberg Mountains in the east, the Auasberg Mountains in the south and the Khomashochland in the west and north of the country, the city is situated in the Windhoek Basin. The partly hilly valley basin of the Khomashochland is part of the Great Escarpment - a terrain and stratigraphic level that separates the inland highlands from the coastal plains. In the heart of Namibia and close to the Atlantic Ocean, Windhoek is the economic and political centre of the country.
