First-hand

We travel Namibia regularly ourselves

„One day in the Hoanib Valley: in the morning we followed the tracks of desert elephants through the dry riverbed, at midday we picnicked in the middle of the bush – giraffes browsing just a few steps away – and in the afternoon we tracked the rare desert lions with our guide. Days like these cannot be booked, but you can pave the way for them: with the right route, the right season and guides who know how to read the land. That is exactly why I travel Namibia myself.“

Places to stay that we know personally

A selection from our Namibia portfolio – from a coastal hotel in Swakopmund to a desert lodge on the edge of the Namib. Which houses suit your journey best is something we work out together in a personal conversation.

Journeys that give something back to Namibia

Namibia's most beautiful experiences happen where wilderness is protected. That is why we prefer to work with small camps and private reserves that don't just promise conservation but fund it – your journey contributes to it directly.

Okonjima & the AfriCat Foundation

Staying at the Okonjima Nature Reserve funds the research and protection of leopards and cheetahs – and you experience the foundation's work on site.

Rhino conservation in private reserves

The private reserves of Ongava and Onguma on the edge of Etosha National Park protect their rhinos with dedicated ranger teams. On a tracking walk, you experience this work at close quarters.

Small camps, quiet wilderness

Places like the Onguma Tented Camp, with just seven tents, keep the footprint small – and turn every wildlife encounter into a private one.

Tourists on a safari vehicle observe a rhinoceros in the grasslands of a savannah.

Frequently asked questions about booking your Namibia journey

Answered briefly and concretely – everything else we are happy to discuss in a personal conversation.

How much does a Namibia round trip cost?

A tailor-made Namibia round trip starts at €3,500 per person excluding international flights, for 14 days as a self-drive journey. Exclusive fly-in safaris with camps in remote regions such as the Hoanib Valley or the Skeleton Coast range between €13,500 and €15,680 per person. The biggest price factors are the lodge category, the share of charter flights and the season. Your personal travel proposal lists all services transparently.

Self-drive or guided journey – which suits me?

Both work beautifully in Namibia – the country is considered one of Africa's best self-drive destinations, with well-maintained gravel roads and clear signposting. If you value the freedom of setting your own pace and don't mind longer driving stages, self-driving is a great fit. If you would rather focus entirely on the experience, choose a guided private journey or a fly-in safari, where light aircraft cover the long distances. Many of our guests combine both – as in the Exclusive Namibia round trip.

How much time should I plan for Namibia?

We recommend at least 14 days. Namibia is more than twice the size of Germany, and Sossusvlei, Swakopmund and Etosha are each several hours' drive apart – with less time, you spend too much of it on the road. With 15 to 17 days, you can also experience the remote north-west with the Hoanib Valley and the Skeleton Coast at a relaxed pace.

When should I book my Namibia journey?

For travel in the popular dry season from May to October, we recommend enquiring 9 to 12 months in advance. Many of the finest places are small – the Onguma Tented Camp has seven tents, the andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge ten suites – and they fill up early in high season. Outside high season, journeys at shorter notice are often quite possible; just get in touch.

Is Namibia suitable for first-time visitors to Africa?

Yes, exceptionally so. Namibia is politically stable, the tourist infrastructure is reliable, and English – the country's official language – is spoken everywhere, alongside German in many places. The time difference to Central Europe is no more than one hour, so you arrive without jet lag. We designed the Highlights of Namibia route precisely for this first visit: it connects the country's best-known places at a relaxed rhythm.

Is Namibia suitable for a family trip?

Yes. As a self-drive country with safe lodges and a time difference of no more than one hour, Namibia is one of Africa's most family-friendly safari destinations. For journeys with children, we deliberately plan shorter driving stages and choose lodges with family rooms and flexible activities. Tell us your children's ages – we will shape the route, accommodation and activities around them.
