Rooms

The Sanbona Gondwana Family Lodge offers 12 suites under its expansive thatched roof, which can be occupied in different ways. Six of the suites are located on the ground floor and six more on the upper floor. Four of the suites are also interconnected, making them ideal for families with children. In general, all suites can accommodate two adults and one child. All guest rooms are equipped with air conditioning for hot summer days and underfloor heating for cosy warmth on colder winter nights. The en-suite bathrooms have a shower and a free-standing bathtub, and the private deck or balcony of each suite offers a breathtaking view of the natural beauty of the mesmerising landscape.

Culinary

At Sanbona Gondwana Family Lodge, attention is paid to every detail - and this is also reflected in the cuisine. The philosophy of head chef Tim du Preez is to capture the diverse flavours of the Klein Karoo, combine them in unusual ways and thus create a culinary adventure on the plate. He only uses ingredients that he has lovingly grown and produced himself or that come from farmers and food producers in the immediate vicinity of the lodge. This makes each dish unique, which guests can enjoy either in the lodge's dining area or under the vast African starry sky in the traditional boma.

Location

Situated in the centre of the 58,000-hectare Sanbona Nature Reserve, the Gondwana Family Lodge is a retreat for relaxation and inspiration. The reserve is home to some of the most biodiverse biospheres in southern Africa. In addition to the well-known "Big 5" elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and rhino, numerous antelope species, ostriches and zebras can be observed here. Over 200 bird species and exotic plants have also found a home here. The Bellair Dam reservoir also provides a habitat for hippos.

No two days at the Sanbona Gondwana Family Lodge are the same and both adults and children will experience unforgettable adventures and relaxing hours of wellness and play. Whether guests want to enjoy family time together or parents want to spend a few hours as a couple, everyone will find their personal happiness here. The daily programme at Sanbona Gondwana Family Lodge naturally revolves around game drives, which take place twice a day, in the early morning at sunrise and in the late afternoon at sunset. Boat safaris on the Bellair Dam are also possible during watery months. Those who want to train their eye for detail can also take part in a safari hike or visit the historic rock paintings in the surrounding area.
